The Christmas Diary of a Pawnbroker – December 2016

22nd December 2016

Did you know that St. Nicholas, Father Christmas himself, is actually the Patron Saint of pawnbroking?

He was famed for his generosity to the poor and for secretly leaving gifts for people in need. He famously saved a poor man’s daughters from being sold as slaves by throwing three bags of gold into their father’s window at night. His three bags of gold are said to represent the 3 balls on a pawnbrokers sign.

We give gifts at Christmas to represent the 3 wise men and their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. What better gift to give someone at Christmas than some lovely gold! Forget the two types of perfume….focus on the yellow metal and something shiny set within it!

Christmas is our busiest time in the jewellery and pawnbroking calendar. Some put their valuables in to borrow money so they can afford a big Christmas. Almost as many take their fine jewellery out so they can enjoy wearing it at Christmas.

The bottom line is simple. Christmas is a very expensive time and if you are in need of an instant loan to help fund your Christmas shopping and supermarket bills, there is no better place to visit than Brown and Gold pawnbrokers.

Even Father Christmas believes in that!
